The video site Vimeo has a monthly audience of about 75 million, but it does not come close to Google’s YouTube, which attracts more than 200 million views just to a single music video, “Gangnam Style”, for example.
The service is called the Tip Jar and once enabled, viewers will be able to show their appreciation for a video by clicking a “Tip this video” link. Users are able to give from $0.99 to $500 for a video. Payments are made using PayPal or a credit card and users do not need to have a Vimeo account to tip.
This feature launches today and Vimeo Plus and Vimeo Pro members will be able to enable the feature on their accounts and videos. Vimeo will give 85% of the gross to the content creator.
