Ingress: Google’s Mobile Game You Can Play In Real Life (WATCH)

by on November 16, 2012

Google and Niantic Labs launched an alternate reality mobile game called Ingress. The theme is one of worldwide mind control, and it can be played out in real life, where you will be a part of one of the two teams which either embrace or fight “the power”.

“Our future is at stake. And you must choose a side” the Google presentation says.

“A mysterious energy has been unearthed by a team of scientists in Europe. The origin and purpose of this force is unknown, but some researchers believe it is influencing the way we think. We must control it or it will control us.”

The app is only available on Android right now but former Google director John Hanke and his Niantic Labs team told AllThingsD:

“The concept is something like World of Warcraft, where everyone in the world is playing the same game,” Hanke said. Players are on one of two teams: “The Enlightened,” who embrace the power, or “The Resistance,” who fight the power. Anyone can play from anywhere in the world, though in more densely played areas there will be more local competition for resources.

Check out the video and app screenshots of Ingress below, and if you are still confused, well, that’s how they want you to feel.
