Both, Gangnam Style and Harlem Shake are trending all over social media, but which one is the most popular? Ghergich & Co analyzed number of tweets per country, social media negative and positive comments, performance and finally created this cool infographic.
Between February 2nd and March 3rd, 2013, the Harlem Shake craziness reached over ten million tweets, with a peek on March 1st, when Miami Heat released their own Harlem Shake edition and tweeted it to one million followers. Other important tweets that helped it, were from iTunesMusic, Baauer, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.
In comparison, PSY’s Gangnam Style reached over 300,000 tweets, with a peek on August 6th when T-Pain mentioned the song. In this case the tweets were counted between July 12th and August 10, 2012. Other Twitter supporters include Josh Groban and many music publications.
Regarding Harlem Shake, 66% of the tweets were positive and 34% negative. 80% posted positive comments about Gangnam Style and 20% negative.
United States earn the first place at number of Harlem Shake tweets, with almost seven million; Indonesia comes second with over 800,000 and Brazil on third place with a little over 300,000 tweets.
Gangnam Style was tweeted 155,000 times in South Korea and 70,000 times in U.S.; Indonesians posted almost 28,000 comments.
The study estimates that, overall, there were over 13 trillion Twitter reactions for Harlem Shake and just 200 million comments for Gangnam Style.
At the end we start counting and the winner is… Harlem Shake with a knockout victory!
