In what may come of some surprise, Microsoft has managed to arrange the release of the Xbox One in China.
This move could mean a lot of money for Microsoft, China is relatively untouched due to their various human rights issues but Microsoft’s Zhang Yaqin, global vice president said that they:
would add more content to the Xbox suitable for Chinese users.
The price of the Xbox is likely to turn off the majority of the Chinese but for the richer ones this could really take off.
Sony and Nintendo have been really trying to break into the Chinese market but to no avail, Microsoft has already struck deals with various media outlets in the country. Now that MS are the first to breach the market they may collect a substantial market share if it takes off. So if and when Sony and Nintendo launch there they may have an upward battle to face.
Im not really sure that the Xbox is the right console for China I mean look at the rest of Asia the Xbox is owned by next to no one, Sony and Nintendo really dominate that market, though I think Nintendo are the only ones that could really make breakthrough there. Their hardware is cheap enough to be affordable but whilst still giving an acceptable gaming experience.
I have read though that the Chinese are not big fans of Japanese products, I have no idea if this is true and if it is that could explain why MS are making such headway in their bid to take China.
