Business Insider announced that we will have a new iPad Mini, slimmer and lighter. Apple could also release the iPad 5 in March, according to Japanese site Macotakara quoted by Business Insider.

The Japanese claim to have information from an “inside source”. This site has got repeatedly rumors about Apple products, but there were also times when the Japanese journalists were wrong.

Besides iPad 5, Apple is expected to launch an iPad Mini, thinner and lighter. On iPad 5, the main differences will be expected in design, says the Japanese site. The 4th generation of iPad was launched by the company led by Tim Cook in October, that after Apple launched its iPad in March.

If the rumors are correct, this diminutive iPad will feature a 2048×1536 (326 PPI) display and the bleeding-edge A6X SoC. This would mean that the iPad Mini 2 would have the same hardware specifications as the iPad 4 — but half the weight and half the price. Suffice it to say, if the iPad Mini wasn’t exciting enough to divert attention away from the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire, then this second generation certainly would be.

It is possible that people at Apple to speed up the pace because they have strong competition on tablet market from Microsoft, Google, Samsung and Amazon.

The site failed to note detailed under-the-hood specifications we might see with the iPad 5 and the new iPad Mini. The current iPad is powered by a 1.3GHz A6X dual core processor, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera and 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, all of which could be improved upon the next time the product receives a refresh.

Meanwhile, the Apple stock is currently enjoying its worst ever period of trading, falling from a high of $700 per share in September down to $500 in December.
